Ascom Generic Lx200 Driver

The setup window which is probably open now allows you to adjust settings for your scope and your needs. The driver has a simple user interface allowing basic control of the telescope. This driver provides both telescope and focuser interfaces each of which may be used by separate programs. Calibrate before anything else! This is a preliminary version of the driver.

Simple applications such as planetarium slewing are more likely to work than demanding automation applications. Use the SkyWatcher driver listed below.

Again, the scope must be parked for auto-startup to work! In combination with blind solve this driver is a cool thing. This driver was written by Mark Crossley mark dot crossley at dsl dot pipix dot com. The Autostar I must be powered-up and completely aligned using the handbox before connecting from the software.

The purpose of parking a scope is to allow a stationary scope to be powered up at a later time and not have to be synced or otherwise aligned. Current firmware required!

Using the LX200GPS/R

Please follow the procedure given below to the letter or risk having pointing problems. The arbitrary park position is not supported due to firmware limitations. Please contact Explore Scientific for more information.

If you don't explicitly set the Park Position, the driver will assume the default wake up position previous paragraph. The scope is always tracking when connected. Please go to the Astro-Physics Driver web page for their driver and associated software. Latest firmware is recommended but will run with old firmware backwards compatible with reduced features. In the latter state, all motors are off and the scope will not respond to commands from the handbox or the serial line.

Re-sync the telescope on the last slew target. You don't have to set it again, unless you want to change to a new Park Position. When asked to slew, the NexStar will sometimes fail to send back an acknowledgement that the slew has been completed. Typically, one should connect to the Telescope driver first, then connect to the focuser. Set the Skysensor's latitude, longitude and time zone to the values on the current SkyMap Pro map.

Show the telescope's position with a cross-hair cursor on the map. Note that it is the Autostar, not the telescope itself, which provides computer control for this device. Features are limited, and end-of-slew detection may be unreliable requires adjustment of encoder resolution.

Earlier firmware versions will likely not work at all. This driver has been supplied by the manufacturer and has passed all conformance tests report here.
